Dress Your Nails

A couple of weeks ago, Jessica from Quiz Clothing contacted me about a nail art competition they were running, which involved designing some nail art based on one of their dresses.

I originally chose the Navy Sequin Zig Zag Split Maxi Dress, which I think is gorgeous, but my first attempt, the glitter was too dark and didn’t stand out against the base, and my second attempt the striping tape was against me, so I scrapped that one, and started again!

I decided on the Pink and Blue Flower Print Crepe Midi Dress, and used Nails Inc Sugarloaf Sunset, Kensington Park Road, and Models Own In The Navy.

Make sure you check out Quiz Clothing if you’d like to enter, the competition closes November 30.

Solitaire & Wedding Nail Art

On Wednesday, I was at friends’ wedding reception. I got a gorgeous dress by Matthew Williamson in the Debenhams sale, which I’m totally in love with, along with some nude shoes and envelope clutch from the Dorothy Perkins sale.

And of course, I had to have some wedding nail art! I used OPI’s Solitaire from the Bond Girls liquid sand collection, Barry M’s white nail art pen, and Solitare with top coat to create the wedding dress, and Barry M 47 Black, and the black and white nail art pens to create the tuxedo.

Solitaire is gorgeous, a white base with silver glitter, it looks like snow! It looks just as pretty with top coat too, and I think it would be a great alternative to a french manicure for a wedding.

Spun Sugar & Derby Day Delight

This will be picture heavy!

What a crazy 16 days it has been to be a Sunderland supporter! 16 days ago, Sunderland sacked manager Martin O’Neill after a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United. The following day Paolo Di Canio was appointed as manager, and a media storm followed. Di Canio’s first game resulted in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but everything felt a lot more positive after a good performance. April 14 was a day I’d been dreading for a long time. This year is the tenth year I’ve been going to watch Sunderland, and in those ten years, we’ve only beaten Newcastle once, and there has been a couple of humiliating defeats. In all honesty, I had prepared myself for another defeat, any last bit of confidence left me when I saw the team line up and Connor Wickham was out through injury, meaning we were left with Gateshead-born Danny Graham, who once said he would stay as far away from Sunderland as he could if he club ceased to exist.

I took my seat high up in the sky, with my legs still feeling like jelly from climbing 14 flights of stairs, and my stomach doing somersaults with nerves, and my fear of heights.

As expected, the atmosphere was brilliant, lots of singing, but you could feel the nerves! After a couple of penalty shouts, and a nasty, dangerous challenge by Gouffran on Adam Johnson, the breakthrough came in the 27th minute, a great finish from Stephane´Sessengon. Cue wild celebrations in the crowd, and from Paolo Di Canio!

A couple of minutes after taking the lead, Simon Mignolet pulled off a brilliant save from Papiss Cisse, and Sunderland went into the break at half time winning 1-0. I still wasn’t confident. On our last trip to St James’ Park, we were winning 1-0 at half time, and Shola Ameobi came on to score the equaliser in the 90th minute. I’d have been even more worried if I’d realised Shola Ameobi had come on to replace Gouffran at half time, but I only found this out today when I watched the game again on TV.

Around 10 minutes in to the second half, Elliot came on to replace Krul, after the Newcastle goalkeeper landed heavily and dislocated his shoulder. An hour into the game, Cisse had the ball in the back of the net, but to our relief it was (wrongly) disallowed for offside. Alan Pardew’s reaction when he finally realised it had been ruled out was priceless. This was luck we usually don’t have, especially in derby games.

With 15 minutes left in the game, Adam Johnson went on a brilliant run and fired the ball into the top left corner. 0-2!

Another crazy celebration from Di Canio!

I began to believe that we could actually win. There was still the chance that we could implode, but as the seconds ticked by, this became less likely. Just over 10 minutes until full time, and I was happy celebrating a 2-0 victory, when BOOM! An absolute beauty of a goal from David Vaughan sent us wild once more, and gave us the victory, along with those incredibly important 3 points. I nearly burst into tears!

I have never seen any Sunderland manager since I’ve been going show such passion for us, and going so crazy on the touchline. Even when we sang ‘Paolo, give us a wave’ he gave us a wave and then a fist pump!

I don’t think I’ve ever been prouder of the players than I was yesterday. Players that will now be spoken about in years to come. People still talk about Gary Rowell’s hat trick against Newcastle in 1979, Niall Quinn’s header in the rain at St James’ Park in 2000, Keiron Richardson’s free kick at the Stadium of Light in 2008. In years to come, we’ll still be talking about those three brilliant goals, and of course, Paolo Di Canio’s wild touchline celebrations. Thank you Paolo, for instilling passion and belief into the players and fans once again.

Away from football now, last Thursday I had 6 inches chopped off my hair! It feels super short at the minute, but it’s made a huge difference to how knotted my hair gets, even when tied up my hair before would end up with massive knots in it. I was out in Durham again for my friends birthday, and wore a spiked pocket leather skater dress from missguided.

For my nails, I attempted spun sugar for the first time, using Ciate´Mistress, and Barry M Matt White. Spun sugar was actually harder than I expected, mainly getting the polish to the right consistency. But I loved the finished look, even though it’s not perfect.

I did have to add a top coat, just to make sure it lasted for three days. The 3D effect disappears with top coat, but I still loved it, and it lasted until derby day, even going crazy I only chipped a tiny bit off!

I Lost My Marbles

In the middle of March, I ordered my first indie polishes, from Lush Lacquer. I’ve been looking for some indie polishes for a while, and I loved their neon glitters! Three weeks after placing my order, they arrived!

I ordered mini bottles of ‘I Lost My Marbles,’ ‘Glitter Girl,’ ‘Mr Bubble,’ ‘Clowning Around,’ and ‘Pink Panther.’ I could have easily bought every bottle they have, they’re all so pretty!

I Lost My Marbles was the first I tried out, and it’s a bright, bubblegum pink base, filled with different sized neon hex glitter. It applied well, and only needed two coats. I did have a problem fishing the larger glitter out, I managed to get a few pieces on my thumb, but I’ll have to give the bottle more of a shake next time.

I love this polish, and I can’t wait to try out the other 4!

Last week, my cousin was over visiting from Germany, so we went out in Durham on Friday, before he went back home on Sunday morning. I wore a plain red skater dress with a white skinny belt, a H&M jacket, and plain black wedge boots.

Happy New Year & 2012 in review

Happy New Year everyone!

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has visited, read, commented and followed by blog since I started in March! I hope you all have a great New Year, and I wish you all the best for 2013.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 4,200 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 7 years to get that many views.

Royal Arcade Nail Jewellery

As I mentioned in my last blog, I was tempted into buying three new Nails Inc polishes whilst I was in London. The Nails Inc assistant asked what colours I liked, and I said blue was one of my favourites, particularly Baker Street, and she suggested Royal Arcade Nail Jewellery. Before I went to London, I quickly tried out Diamond Arcade Nail Jewellery on my toes, and loved it, so I didn’t need much persuading! Nail Jewellery is described as ‘Nail polish that adorns your nails like jewels. The ultimate nail accessory to add sparkle to any outfit. This revolutionary formula has been created with hand cut particles creating faceted fragments that dazzle like precious stones. Who needs diamonds when you can have nail jewellery?’ So once I got home, I tried out out over Baker Street, and here’s how it looked;

I wish the pictures showed just how sparkly this was, it was so pretty! The lady at Nails Inc also suggested trying it over Kensington Park Road, so I’ll definitely be trying that out too, and experimenting with other combinations. Have you tried any of the Nail Jewellery collection?

I also mentioned in my last blog that I had a visit to Victoria’s Secret whilst I was in London, here’s what I bought;

As you can see I love the PINK range! The jogging bottoms and the hoody are so cosy. I could have bought the whole shop! I have my fingers crossed that they’ll either have an online shop in the UK, or roll out more stores, hopefully with one in the Metro Centre!

Paint Your Pinkie Pink

Hi everyone! I’ve had such a busy couple of weeks I haven’t found time to write a blog! If you read my last blog, you’d know I recently spent three days in London, then when I got home, I was back for two days, then back to London for West Ham v Sunderland! I’ve also been getting back to the gym, and last night I was on the road again, down to Milton Keynes for MK Dons v Sunderland. Busy bee!
I had a great time in London, even though I was exhausted from walking around so much! I was a bit gutted when my camera decided not to work when we went on the London Eye though. Here are a couple of pictures from when I was there.

One of things we did first was go to Selfridges, where the Nails Inc team were painting pinkies pink for Breast Cancer Campaign, so me and my friend Michael (doesn’t he looked thrilled?) had ours painted. They also convinced me to buy some nail polish (not that it takes much convincing) but they had a 3 for £22 offer on, and Nails Inc polishes are usually £11 each. They were the only polishes I bought in London though, so I think I did well!

We also had a trip to the Tower of London, my favourite part had to be The Crown Jewels, as they say, diamonds are a girls’ best friend!

One of my favourite things was Ripley’s Believe it or Not, so much fun, although a lot of things seemed to make me jump! My hair glowed in the UV light in the Black Hole!

I didn’t get great pictures on the London Eye, but this was one of the best my phone took.

I think my highlight of London had to be Victoria’s Secret. I’m so happy they’ve finally opened a store in the UK, and the one in Bond Street is amazing. I’d been after some of the PINK range for a long time, but never wanted to order from the US in case customs charges ended up being as much as what I bought! I’m hoping they’ll have a UK website at some point. I’ll post pictures of what I bought over the next few days, now I have a bit more free time!

Leopard Print & Shopping Haul

I’ve been slacking with my blog recently, hence the two quick posts! As I said in my last post I’m loving nail art at the minute, especially leopard print. This was a style I saw on Pinterest and loved, so I pinched the colour scheme. I used Barry M 306 Blueberry Ice Cream, 308 Berry Ice Cream, 47 Black, and Nails Inc Notting Hill Gate.

I went to the Metro Centre (a big shopping mall for anyone not from the UK!) a few days ago, and bought quite a lot! I found a stall selling cheap makeup, and they had a lot of cheap nail polish! I restrained myself and only bought 3!

I also got this gorgeous bag, and leopard necklace from Accessorize

I did get a lot of things from Primark too, but my camera battery ran out!

Silver Multi Glitter

Last week I bought 3 of Barry M’s new glitter nail paints (there’s 5 new ones, Silver Multi Glitter, Aqua Glitter, Pink Silver Glitter, Magenta Glitter and Gold Glitter. Having a look on Barry M they also have Jewel Britannia, which I LOVE!) Silver Multi Glitter is the first one I tried out.

Silver Multi Glitter is packed with tiny, tiny glitter, mainly silver, and pink, blue and gold (possible more than I can’t see!) One coat was quite sheer, but it was opaque after three coats.

These show one coat on my index finger, two on my middle finger, and three on my ring and little fingers.

I love this polish, like most glitters it dried quickly, and had a gritty texture to it, which was fixed with a top coat. I have a lot of pictures of this one! I really wanted to try and show the colours in it, and it’s a lot more sparkly in person. It was also so easy to remove for a glitter, I was very surprised. I still used the foil method, and maybe it’s because the glitter is so small, but it only took about 5 minutes, and it all came off in one go. Usually with glitter I’d be sat with my nails wrapped up for at least 10 minutes. I wish all glitters were this quick to remove!

On to something else, hair products! I have really thick, long (almost waist length) hair, which has sort of a natural kink to it, and the only thing I can really do with it is straighten it. No matter how hard I try it just won’t curl! Tonight I tried out BaByliss 3035BU Thermo-Ceramic Rollers. They did the job, for 5 minutes, then all the curls dropped out, and I was just left with a slight wave (what my hair looks like anyway!) I then twisted my hair into a bun for an hour or so after that, and when I took it out my dropped curls had turned into lovely soft waves, but I don’t want to have to tie my hair in a bun for an hour after spending ages putting rollers in!

I’ve also ordered some sleep rollers to try out, which I’ve seen everywhere recently, thinking that hopefully having them in my hair for 8-9 hours will actually keep the style in my hair.

What I’d really like to know is if anyone has any recommendations for mousse, or setting spray etc, that might keep a curl in my hair for more than 5 minutes!

Azure Blue

Whenever I go for a look around Superdrug, I never seem to look at the 2True stand, but last week I did, and ended up buying three new nail polishes. They were 3 for £4.99, but Superdrug currently have a 3 for 2 offer on all cosmetics, so I got 3 for £3.98, can’t complain about that! The first of the three I tried out was shade number 48, Azure Blue. This is a very pretty jelly cornflower blue, with a silver shimmer. It was quite sheer, and I needed 3 coats, but for a cheaper polish it went on nicely.

On Wednesday whilst I was doing my big shop, I noticed Tesco had an offer on The Fifty Shade Trilogy. I’ve seen these books everywhere recently, huge billboards on my trip to London, celebs tweeting and posted pictures of them on Instagram, so I thought I’d buy the first two to see what all the fuss was about. Well, I’m addicted. I’ve already finished the first, and started the second, and halfway through reading the first I ordered the third off Amazon, so hopefully it’ll be here before I finish the second. I think writing this blog is the longest I’ve stopped reading them, other than to sleep! Has anyone else read them?

Tomorrow night I’m supposed to be going out, and I’ve been thinking about what I’m planning to wear, which is probably going to be a trusty LBD, my favourite being this heart jacquard dress which I got from ASOS a couple of years ago. I love the open heart detail on the back. This also gives me the opportunity to have very bright nails, and I think I’ll be going back to Model’s Own, Hedonist, and they don’t get much brighter than that!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Lyndsey 🙂
