Disney Villains Varnish Collection

Last year, Disney released their Villains Designer collection, a beautiful set of collectible dolls, each limited to 13,000. The six in the collection are Maleficent, Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, Queen of Hearts, Ursula and Mother Gothel. I was lucky enough to receive the Maleficent doll as a Christmas present from two of my friends, and yesterday I picked up Mother Gothel, which was half price in the sale. Ursula and Queen of Hearts are also still available online for half price (I’m very tempted with the Queen of Hearts!)

Anyway, there is a few other things available in the villains collection, an eyeshadow palette, notepads, mugs etc, and nail polish. I spotted the nail polish in the sale, £5.99, reduced from £20, for 6 15ml polishes. Being a Disney/polish addict, I couldn’t resist! The only thing that put me off a little was that the Ursula polish in every set had gone a little green. Thankfully a good shake fixed it!

Cruella De Vil

Cruella De Vil, the iconic villain from 101 Dalmatians, who wishes to use the skins of the puppies to make a fur coat. The Cruella De Vil polish is a pillar box red, to match the lining of her coat, along with her gloves and shoes. The polish only needed two coats, and applied evenly with a glossy finish, no top coat is used in the pictures.

Evil Queen

The Evil Queen was the villain from the worlds first full length animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. She wanted to be the fairest of them all, and was jealous of Snow White’s beauty. The Evil Queen’s polish is a very deep purple, almost black, with purple glitter. It dries with a very gritty look, although the texture isn’t too bad. It fits in well with the texture trend that is going on at the minute, but I’m sure top coat would eliminate this. My pictures show two coats with no top coat, and it was very hard to photograph, it looks a lot better in person.

Maleficent is the sorceress in Sleeping Beauty who curses Aurora, and turns into a dragon to try and stop Prince Phillip from awakening Aurora. Sleeping Beauty has always been my favourite Disney movie, and Maleficent my favourite villain. The Maleficent polish is based around her green skin, and is a beautiful shimmering jewel tone, which only needed two coats. It was also glossy without top coat.

Mother Gothel

Mother Gothel is the newest addition to the Disney villains, from the recent movie, Tangled. Mother Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel when she was a baby because of her magic hair, and kept her locked in the tower. Tangled instantly became one of my favourite Disney movies when I saw it. The Mother Gothel polish is a deep raspberry jelly, which dries to a glossy finish. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Queen of Hearts

The Queen of Hearts is the villain from Alice in Wonderland, mainly known for wanting the roses painted red, or for shouting ‘off with her head!’ If I had been choosing the colours for the polish, I’d probably have gone for red for the Queen of Hearts, rather than gold, and maybe a black for Cruella De Vil. Queen of Hearts is a gold shimmer, with small pieces of silver glitter in. (At least I think it’s silver, it could be gold, but it looks more silver to me!) This one was slightly more sheer and needed 3 coats, but it was glossy without top coat.

Ursula is a cecaelian sea witch from The Little Mermaid. She takes Ariel’s voice in exchange for making Ariel human for three days. I haven’t seen The Little Mermaid since I was a kid, because it isn’t available on DVD yet, but I remember always being scared of Ursula! The Ursula polish matches her skin tone, a lilac shimmer, with small silver glitter. It has the slightly gritty look like Evil Queen, although this should be fixed with top coat. My pictures show two coats with no topcoat.

  1. Thanks so much for swatching! I’d been seeing pictures of these around but hadn’t found any swatches. I think Maleficent is my favorite. It’s crazy how glossy they are even without topcoats!

    1. Maleficent is my favourite too 🙂 I love that they’re glossy without top coat, I usually wear top coat anyway, but it’s nice to have the option if you like a glossy finish!
