Born Pretty Barbie Decals

This may be the girliest mani I’ve ever done! These Born Pretty Barbie decals have seven different images, all Barbie pink of course!

I’m a big fan of water decals, they’re simple to use and can create some beautiful nail art. And of course you can even design your own, like I did for the Capital One Cup Final.

I used Barry M Strawberry Ice Cream, and Butter London Fairy Cake, along with a few rhinestones.

Don’t forget to use the code YDL91 for 10% off!

Born Pretty recently sent me some items for review, all views are my own.

Barry M recently released their Glitterati collection, and I am in love!

Barry M

Unfortunately when I went to Superdrug, they only had one left! I was pretty devastated, but ordered three others from ASOS once I got home (and I had a £5 voucher, woohoo!) and I can’t wait for that nail mail!

The only one I was able to pick up from Superdrug was VIP, but was actually my favourite from viewing other swatches, I just love a blue!

VIP is a bright blue jelly base, with blue iridescent and holo glitter. The formula was a little thick, and I found I needed three coats to even up a few patches.

Which is your favourite from the glitterati collection?

I’m sure everyone is sick of hearing about my MacBook issues, but a couple of weeks ago it packed up completely, so I haven’t been able to blog. I had to wait a week for a genius appointment, and was told my hard drive had totally failed, but I cannot fault Apple’s customer service! In the past they’ve replaced my MagSafe charger, a lightning cable adaptor, and my iPhone when the lock button broke, all for free, but I thought a new hard drive might have been a bit of a stretch, but I was wrong! I was even amazed at how quickly it was repaired, I was told it would be 3-5 days, but I got a call the next morning to say it was ready for pick up – about 15 hours after I took it in!

Whilst I’ve been MacBook-less, I’ve been doing some swatching (along with buying more polish, so many amazing new ones out right now!) so I have lots of posts to come!

Barry M have recently released a whole host of new nail paints, the Glitterati collection, new additions to the silk collection and two new additions to the aquarium collection.

Persian is one of the new additions to the aquarium collection (the other being a glitter topper) and is gorgeous purple and gold/bronze duo chrome.

It was quite sheer, my pictures show three coats.

Have you tried any of the new Barry M’s? What are your favourites?

Colour Me Crazy – Black & White

This week, my MacBook decided to break AGAIN. It did exactly the same as it did a few weeks ago, so I was pretty sure it was the hard drive this time. I even took pictures of this weeks nails on my iPhone so I could still get my post done (then replace the pictures when my MacBook was fixed!) So I had a trip to the Apple Store at the Metro Centre, anyone from the same area who has been to the Metro Centre lately will know the current roadworks on the A1 are a nightmare (and are there until 2016!) which meant even though I’d set off earlier than usual, I was still 10 minutes late for my genius appointment. Thankfully they were able to fit me in, a lot of people have been having the same problem with the traffic, where the guy restored and reinstalled everything, and didn’t find anything wrong with my hard drive. I now have a current Time Machine back up, and all those 85,000 folders still to hunt through, so if my HD does end up going, everything is now safe. Make sure you back up guys! Don’t be like me!

Anyway! As I said it my last post, I was struggling with the black and white theme, being a Sunderland supporter, black and white is pretty much forbidden together! I did some searching on Pinterest, and found this great constellation mani by Manicurity.  As soon as I saw it, I knew that’s what I wanted to do, and I love the way it turned out.

I used Nails Inc New York Noir, the white Barry M Nail Art Pen, and Sweet Color #124 from Born Pretty.

Colour Me Crazy – Purple

Week 7 of the BNB Nail Art Challenge, and I’m still managing to keep on track! This weeks prompt was purple.

I decided to go for a sponge gradient (it was originally meant to be purple and blue, but the blue just kind of blended in!) with Barry M’s Prickly Pear Gelly, and OPI Vant to Bite My Neck?

Please excuse the tip wear, I’d had this on two days before I could take some photos!

Next week is going to be hard work for me, I’m going to have to come up with something that isn’t too black and white, as a Sunderland supporter I cannot have black and white nails lol 😀

Colour Me Crazy – Green

Week 4 of the Colour Me Crazy nail art challenge, green. I’m so impressed with myself that I’ve managed to keep up with this so far and make sure I’m posting regularly too!

The Nailasaurus was my inspiration for this look, and I bravely dug out the striping tape! I very rarely even attempt to use striping tape (or any kind of tape) but striping tape is just so damn fiddly! But I stuck with it, and I was pleasantly surprised when it actually turned out okay! Until I smudged a few bits with top coat, but never mind, I’m counting this as a success!

I used Barry M 2012 Boots Xmas LE, and Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam, which is a very dark teal.

Colour Me Crazy – Orange

Second prompt of the British Nail Bloggers Colour Me Crazy nail art challenge – orange.

I haven’t gone for anything particularly exciting, sticking with plain orange creme – Models Own Fuzzy Peach, with a leopard print accent nail. For the accent nail I used Barry M Nude, Models Own Fuzzy Peach, the black Models Own nail art pen, and topped it off with Nails Inc Electric Lane holo top coat to add some sparkle!

I’m sure the other BNB’s will have come up with something a lot more exciting than me, so make sure you check theirs out!

Barry M Summer Limited Editions

Barry M currently have four limited editions on sale, two in Superdrug, and two in Boots.

The two available in Superdrug are Promenade and Seaside.

Promenade is a pink shimmer. It was slightly on the sheer side, so I used three coats, with one coat of HK Girl.

Seaside is one of my favourites from the four, a very pretty bright turquoise blue shimmer. The formula was very sheer though. I used three coats, and looking at the photos I probably could have done with a fourth. My pictures show three coat with no top coat.

The two polishes available in Boots are Carousel and Bikini.

Carousel is a bright coral creme, with a gold shimmer, although the gold shimmer is a little disappointing on the nail. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Bikini is my favourite of the four, a periwinkle blue creme. My pictures show 2 coats with no topcoat.

Do you have any of the summer limited editions? Make sure you snap them up soon if you haven’t already!

MoYou Nails Review

MoYou Nails kindly sent me two of their stamping plates, a stamping polish, scraper and stamper (along with their summer catalogue) for me to try out and review.

I do already own various stamping plates, but I’ve always got frustrated with them, because I don’t generally have the patience when things don’t work first time!

When MoYou nails contacted me, I chose Image plate 101, and 107, along with the black special polish.

I tried out plate 107 first, over Barry M Promenade.

I found this one so easy to use, so much so that I was able to do most of the images first time. The stamping polish dried really quickly too, so I was able to put top coat on straight away with no smudging, which is always a bonus!

I used plate 101 over Nails Inc Sao Paulo Streets.

I found this plate a lot harder to use, I got so frustrated with some of them (which is why a couple are wonky, I didn’t want to waste the good image!) As I’m a stamping novice, I’m not totally sure where I was going wrong, whether I was scraping too hard, or pressing the stamper too hard to pick up the image. Whatever it was, I’m sure practice makes perfect, but I’m pretty happy with my attempt.

Trying out these has definitely made me want to practice stamping more, I’ll definitely have to dig out my other plates!

Do you like stamping? Let me know if you have any tips!

Heather & Mist

A few months ago, Barry M released their Silk collection, 6 pastel shades with a silk finish. They remind me of scented satin sweets, does anyone remember them?!

Heather is a pearly pale lavender, my pictures show three coats with no top coat.

Mist is a pale blue, my pictures show three coats with no top coat.

Have you tried any of the silk collection? I love them!
