Alcatraz…Rocks is part of OPI’s San Francisco Collection. Its no secret that I love textured polishes, especially liquid sand, so when Nail Polish Direct had free P&P over the weekend, I couldn’t resist, and it was only £6.99.
Alcatraz…Rocks is a deep smoky blue, with a mixture of other colours, with pink, purple and gold standing out the most. The formula was great, and I only needed two coats, and as with all liquid sands, it dried with a matte, slightly gritty finish. I love this polish! My pictures show two coats with no top coat.
If you’re not a fan of the liquid sand texture, this polish also looks amazing with top coat. It took two coats to even it out.
I also tried out China Glaze’s Fast Freeze Quick Dry Spray when I added the top coat. I’d ran out of quick dry top coat, and they aren’t exactly cheap! So I thought I’d try this for a change as it was only £4.99 from Nail Polish Direct. I used it with a normal top coat (I’d painted my nails the day before) which I left to dry for around 60 seconds, then sprayed the liquid on my nails, holding the bottle between 3 and 6 inches away. The first thing I noticed was the smell, which reminded me of Deep Heat, but that didn’t last too long. It did make a difference to the drying time, sometimes the top coat can be tacky for around half an hour (which I hate!) but after using this spray it was touch dry within a minute or so. I will have to test it again when I use polish plus top coat.
Over the weekend I gave in to OPI’s vintage Minnie Mouse collection, and ordered Nothin’ Mousie ’bout It, which put me in a Disney mood, so I decided to do some Mickey Mouse nail art (planning on some Minnie Mouse nail art too!) until the polish arrives.
I used Barry M 47 Black, 262 Bright Red and 307 Lemon Ice Cream, and my dotting tools.
Also for anyone in the UK who struggles to get their hands on China Glaze polish (I’ve been after some for ages!) Beauty Bay just started selling them. This is where I’ve ordered all my previous OPI polishes from, and shipping is free!
So I’ve been a bit busy playing on my new iPad (I’m addicted to Draw Something) and I thought I’d give my nails a few days break whilst waiting for new polishes in my ELF order. The first one I tried out was Purple Dream, which is a gorgeous glossy polish. It applied really nicely, but I found it was quite watery, and I needed 3 coats for full coverage. Overall, I love the colour, but I’ve already chipped it once, so I don’t think it’ll last very long, but I can’t really complain for £1.50!
I also ordered two OPI mini sets last night, the Holland collection and Nice Stems! Very excited, especially for Be A Dahlia Won’t You?, Come To Poppy, I Lily Love You, Kiss Me on My Tulips and Pedal Faster Suzi! – all the pinks! I also can’t wait for OPI’s Minnie Mouse collection to come out later this year, very cute! L to R: I’m All Ears, Nothin’ Mousie ’bout it, If You Moust You Moust and The Color of Minnie.
One last thing, does anybody know where I can buy China Glaze polish in the UK? Either online or in a shop, they have some amazing colours but I can’t find them anywhere!
