Derby Day Nails

It’s that time of the season already. Derby day. Sunderland v Newcastle. It’s been a while since I mentioned football on my blog, mainly because I’m totally fed up with it. But, derby day calls for some red and white nails, even though I’m pretty sure we’re going to get thrashed. Hopefully they’ll prove me wrong and I’ll be over the moon again like last time.

I just went for something simple this time, OPI The Impossible with Solitaire as an accent nail, topped with two coats of HK Girl.

Gradient Tutorial

On Sunday, I was in London again for the last game of the season (boooooooo :() Tottenham v Sunderland. Unfortunately we got beat (and I missed the goal!) and now I have a long summer with no football. No doubt I’ll spend even more time doing my nails! I had an hour to spare when I got to London before I had to meet everyone in the pub, and managed to spend that whole hour in Victoria’s Secret! But I did get a free umbrella, worth £70! (I don’t know why anyone would pay £70 for an umbrella!)

spurs

Its been a while since I first did gradient nails, so I decided to give them another go, and do a quick tutorial while I was on, even though there’s probably much better tutorials than mine!

Start off by painting your nails white, I used two coats of Models Own Snow White.

photo 1

I use a make up sponge, they’re cheap to buy, and don’t have any large holes in like other sponges sometimes do. I then cut it up so its just larger than my nail.

photo 2

Paint the sponge with the polish, you need to be quite generous, as it sinks into the sponge. I used Barry M Greenberry, Models Own Lilac Dream, and Pastel Pink.

photo 4

Dab the polish onto the nail, side to side, and then slightly up and down to blend the colours together.

photo 3

It is very messy! But that’s quickly cleaned up with a cotton bud, brush and pure acetone.

photo 5

I also added some tribal nail art using the Barry M nail art pen.

Dangerous Affair

Day 2 of the Mini Mani Month, a day late due to spending most of yesterday on a bus, I quickly opened the door of the advent calender, then it was off to Norwich (more about that later.)

So, behind the second door, was Dangerous Affair. I didn’t look too closely at it when I opened it, and in my sleepy state I thought it was more of a red-brown colour, but when I looked properly, it’s a deep raspberry red. I’m not a massive fan of bright reds, so this is a great shade for me.

The pictures show two coats without top coat, and the polish applied really well, and dried quickly.

Back to yesterday, which started with a 3.45am alarm after getting very little sleep, I left the house around 5.30, and our bus left at 6.15. We then wasted almost an hour going around different villages picking people up. Our usual supporters branch didn’t have a bus on, so we were with a different branch, and to me, a branch should have 2-3 pick ups, max. Not 6-7 like they did. It was a nightmare. On the way home was even worse, it was like being on a service bus. Dropping one person off, then dropping someone else off another 20 yards down the road. When you’ve been on a bus for nearly 6 hours and its midnight, the last thing you want is another hour added to your journey going down back rounds and around little villages. We won’t be going with that branch again, that’s for sure! Nice people, but that was just a nightmare. Rant over.

Once we (eventually) arrived in Norwich, we stopped off at The Fat Cat pub a couple of miles from the ground, for about two hours. A really nice pub, friendly locals, and some very bizarre real ales. My dad was drinking something called Bitburger. Sadly just Diet Coke for me!

We made the short journey to Carrow Road, and I had to have a quick look in the club shop, to pick up a couple of things for a friends work colleagues Christmas present. I always like to see what other clubs sell (which is a little weird, I know, but I like to compare with what Sunderland have) and Norwich sell one of the most random things I’ve seen at a football club, a Rubik’s cube!

Once inside the stadium, we got to have a quick chat with a friend from Sweden, who travels over to see as many games as he can, and I also met a girl named Claire, who was from California! Although she was studying in Cambridge, so she didn’t have too far to go!  That’s one of my favourite things about football, especially away games, meeting lots of new people from all over the place, whether it’s in person or through twitter.

It was also my first visit to Carrow Road, making it the 38th football stadium I’ve been to, which means I’ll hit 40 this season, as I haven’t been to Reading or Southampton before.

The first half of the game was very disappointing, Sunderland were very poor, and went 2-0 down, until somehow,Craig Gardner managed to nick a goal back just before half time. The second half was like watching a totally different team, massively improved, and in the end, I have no idea how we didn’t get an equaliser. If only the team that came out in the second half had come out in the first half too. But, we have Chelsea next week, so nothing much to worry about there…

Amethyst

A few months ago, Barry M released their Jewel Glitter Collection, Amethyst was the one I wanted to try the most, and when I eventually found it, it didn’t disappoint!

Amethyst is packed with purple, pink, turquoise, gold and black hex glitter, and it is like a party on your nails. If you’re looking for a Christmas nail polish, this is perfect! The glitter is so dense it was fully opaque in three coats, and dried really quickly. The only problem I found was that I had to have a lot on the brush to actually cover an area of the nail. As with most glitter polishes it dries with the bumpy texture, fixed with a layer of topcoat.

From left to right: one coat, two coats, three coats, three coats.

As you can see from the last picture, my cuticles are looking horrible and dry, so I’ve ordered some Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme to try and solve this problem, being out in the cold at football at the time probably isn’t helping!

Over the last few days I’ve been at two football matches. On Sunday I went to London for Fulham v Sunderland. This meant a 4.30am wake up call, after only managing to get four hours sleep, leaving the house at 6.30am. The only benefit of being out of the house this early was the beautiful twilight sky (shame about the lamp post and road sign!)

We stopped off at Woodall services, which meant one thing, Starbucks Christmas cups! I’d just fallen asleep before we stopped so I wasn’t thrilled about going out in the cold!

Once we made it to London, we went straight round to the pub we usually visit when we play Fulham, The Crabtree, which is just a short walk from Craven Cottage, and whilst we were there, a guy came round with the FA Cup which you could have your picture taken with. It was a lot heavier than I expected! I’ve now been able to hold the FA Cup, the European Cup, and the Division One trophy 😀

On to the game, we were in row 4, not the best seats, I like being at the front, but at Craven Cottage the first few rows are virtually pitch level, so it’s very hard to see what’s going on, especially if you have tall people in front 🙁

But that didn’t spoil anything too much, Sunderland won 3-1! With goals from Steven Fletcher, Carlos Cuellar, and a beauty from Stephane Sessegnon.

Yesterday I was back at the Stadium of Light for the U21s derby against Newcastle, which ended 2-2; Sunderland were 2-1 down but a late equaliser from Craig Lynch sealed the draw.

After Sunday, I can’t wait to get to get back to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, when Sunderland take on West Bromwich Albion, and I’m feeling positive for once. We haven’t had the best start to the season, and I still can’t believe we scored three goals, and had three different goalscorers!

Wear Something Spar-Kylie

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some things from the ASOS sale, and they had some reduced Nicole by OPI polish. I couldn’t resist getting one! I got Wear Something Spar-Kylie from the Kardashian Kolor collection. I also had to google who Kylie was, I’d never watched Keeping Up With The Kardashians, so I only knew who Kourtney, Kim and Khloe´were. Now, thanks to Netflix, I am hooked on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and I’m already on Season 5, along with two seasons of Kourtney and Khloe´Take Miami.

The first thing I thought when I got this polish is what an odd shape the bottle is! Wear Something Spar-Kylie is a pink glitter polish, with a pink base and various shades of pink glitter. Once I’d added top coat it had a jelly finish. I only needed two coats, and it dried super quick, by the time I’d finished one coat on all my nails the first ones were dry!

Today I also got myself a fish tank! I’m only getting three goldfish, but I’m very excited! We set the tank up today, and we’re getting the fish on Sunday. I used to have some fish, but that was probably nearly 10 years ago now, and it’ll be nice to have another pet after losing my dog a couple of months ago (still after a puppy too!)

Tomorrow night I’m off to Hartlepool v Sunderland and I cannot wait! It’s Sunderland’s first pre-season game back in the UK after they were in South Korea for the Peace Cup. I’ve missed going to football so much, and it’s another football ground to tick off my list!

Pedal Faster Suzi

Pedal Faster Suzi is from OPI’s Holland collection. I used it recently when I did some dotted nail art and I thought I’d already written about it. I’ve only tried out two polishes from the Dutch Treats mini collection (the other being I Have A Herring Problem), and this is definitely my favourite so far, maybe because it’s pink! It’s not an ‘in your face’ pink, but I still think it’s very girly, a baby pink with a silver shimmer. It was very sheer, and needed 3 coats to be opaque.

I also got Nothin’ Mousie ’bout It in the post today, which is from OPI’s Vintage Minnie Mouse collection, and straight away I wanted to try it out, so not thinking about the colour of the hearts in the polish, I put it over Pedal Faster Suzi, which as you can see, didn’t work too well!

I’m going to try this out over a darker colour over the weekend.

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned entering Umbro’s #KissTheBadge competition, during Euro 2012. They emailed me a couple of days ago to let me know I’d won! I’ll find out in the next couple of days if I’ve won an England shirt signed by the England team, or by Gazza 🙂

Shipwrecked

Firstly, I’d like to say congratulations to Chelsea on winning the Champions League! My dad liked Chelsea growing up, as well as supporting Sunderland, he brought me up to like them too, so I was pretty nervous watching the game last night, I’m not sure how I’d cope if I went to watch Sunderland in a major final! This year was definitely meant to be Chelsea’s year though, the game in Napoli when they lost 3-1 but then won the home leg 4-1, the semi finals against Barcelona, nicking a goal at Stamford Bridge somehow after being battered, and the brilliant 2-2 result at the Camp Nou where 10 man Chelsea were trailing 2-0, and Fernando Torres got the injury time equaliser to seal it. As Gary Neville would say, UNBELIEEEEEEEVVVVVABLEEEEE! Even in the final, Chelsea rode their luck, with Bayern Munich failing to convert some good chances, before Didier Drogba scored the decisive penalty in the shootout to deny Bayern victory on home turf.

Christine Bleakley congratulating her fiance´Frank Lampard. Loving Christine’s Chelsea blue nails, looks like Baker Street! Pictures from Christine’s twitter.

On to my nails! Today I’m wearing another polish from George at ASDA, Shipwrecked. This polish is very similar to OPI’s Fly, from the Nicki Minaj collection, and is a creamy teal shade. The application of this was much better than Smarty Pants too, less streaky, and I only needed two coats.

I’ve also changed the theme on my blog, so please let me know what you think about it 🙂

Hedonist

This is definitely one of my favourite nail polishes now! Hedonist is part of Model’s Own’s HedKandi collection, and is a neon coral/orange, with a matte finish, but the next day the matte effect seemed to have worn off, and the polish was more glossy. I only needed one coat, but it was quite thick, so my pictures show two coats, as it was quite messy! It dried really quick too.

My photos don’t do this polish justice, it’s so bright! I found that if you look at your screen from a different angle, or tip your screen back slightly, you can see a bit more of the neon effect! I’m not a huge fan of matte polishes, but I love this. If you like bright colours I’d definitely recommend this, I don’t think they come any brighter!

Onto football, I now have a couple of empty months with no games to go to 🙁 today was quite a strange game! Sunderland v Manchester United, with us getting beat off United, and with five minutes to go, Manchester City getting beat off QPR, United fans celebrating, people getting ready to come out and build the stand for the trophy presentation, our game had finished, and with City at 2-2 the reaction at the final whistle was strange, no cheering from either fans, just everyone waiting on the news from the Etihad. Then City scored! Within a couple of minutes the United fans had gone from being over the moon to devastated and streaming out of the stadium!

So congratulations to Manchester City, it’s nice to see someone else winning the league, especially when City have been rather similar to Sunderland over the years, spending a lot of time being relegated and promoted. Now I’m just waiting for a sheik to come and buy Sunderland so we can win the league ha! 😉

Emerald Black

Back to the Model’s Own Beetlejuice collection, and Emerald Black, which I was really looking forward to getting my hands on. I was actually a little disappointed with this, it wasn’t as duochrome as I’ve seen in some pictures, and certainly not compared to the others I have tried from this collection. Rather than being a combination of black and green, to me it just looked like a dark green, which was still a nice colour though. There was also a hint of blue in the bottle at times, although this didn’t show on the nail.

I’m off to Birmingham tomorrow for Aston Villa v Sunderland, hoping it’ll be a better game that our last two home games, which were both a snooze fest! Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Indian Ocean

I still can’t believe the result from Saturday! Away at Manchester City, winning 3-1, then we threw it away and drew 3-3! It is still a good result, I’d have happily taken a draw before the game, but it was a bit disappointing going from 3-1 to 3-3 in the last 10 minutes. I did manage to get on TV though, celebrating Seb Larsson’s second goal, and I spotted myself on some pictures! On the first one, I’m just above Mario Balotelli’s head, in front of the person with the red and white shirt on. And the second, I’ve disappeared completely in the madness of the celebrations, and I don’t know how! I can see my dad going crazy, and the guy who was stood next to me on the other side, the little kid in front of me, but I’m nowhere to be seen!

So, onto my nails! I went for the last of my three new Model’s Own polishes, Indian Ocean, which is part of the Beetlejuice Collection.

Indian Ocean was a very sheer polish, and took four coats to get full coverage, definitely worth it though. This shows one coat on my index finger, two on my middle, three on my ring finger, and four on my little finger.

I absolutely LOVE this polish. It’s a shimmery blue, which changes to yellow, orange, pink and purple. It’s so pretty! I tried to show all the different colours so I took quite a few pictures!

I think I’ll have to have another trip to Boots soon while they have their 3 for 2 cosmetics off on, I really want to try out Purple Blue, Emerald Black and Aqua Violet from this collection!
