Easter Nail Art

I hope every one had a good Easter! I’m a few days late with this post! I did these nails last Thursday, but I haven’t had time to blog about it! On Good Friday I had lunch with some of my family, Saturday I was at the Stadium of Light for Sunderland v Manchester United (after losing my season ticket!) then on Saturday night, our manager, Martin O’Neill was sacked! I was pretty gutted about that, I was over the moon when he got the job, but unfortunately it just hasn’t worked. I do think the timing was bad though, it either should have been weeks ago, or at the end of the season, hopefully we can stay up. Then Sunday, after watching the football with my dad, half my family turned up! My German cousin is over here visiting for a week with one of his friends, so I decided to take them (plus my other two cousins) for a quick look around the Stadium of Light, followed by a trip to the arcade!

Then on Monday, we appointed our new manager, Paolo Di Canio, which sparked a mass political debate, and was all over the national press. I know very little about politics, but agreed completely with one of Di Canio’s quotes; ‘We are not in the Houses of Parliament, we are in a football club.’ Regardless of his beliefs, I will continue to support my football team. As far as I’m concerned, he’s there to keep us in the Premier League, he’s not running the country. There’s a good article over at What’s Occurring? on the whole matter.

Tonight, my German cousin and his friend were at my house again, to watch the Bayern Munich game, along with my uncle, and one of my other cousins, and whilst half watching the football, I painted my cousins nails, with some blue ombre dots.

Finally onto my Easter nails! My inspiration came from Peachy Polish, and I used Models Own Beth’s Blue, Lemon Meringue, Jade Stone, Fuzzy Peach, Pastel Pink, Lilac Dream and Snow White. All apart from Snow White make up the Models Own Ice Cream collection.

Snowmen, Snowflakes & Southampton

For the weekend, I did some more Christmas nail art. I’m a little obsessed, and I’ve had my Christmas Day nail art planned for a few days! I didn’t want to do anything too fancy, so I went for a snowman accent finger, and snowflakes. I used Barry M Silver foil effects, Models Own Snow White, Models Own white nail art pen, and acrylic paint for the snowman.

On Saturday, I had a 4.30am wake up, followed by a 6 hour bus journey to Southampton, St. Mary’s being the 39th football stadium I’ve visited. Always nice to tick off a new one, even if it is 300 miles away!

Thankfully, the long journey was worth it, and Sunderland won 1-0, with another goal for Steven Fletcher!

Fletcher celeb

They were a very important 3 points for us, especially with some of the games we have coming up. It also meant we could have a bit of a Christmas party on the bus home, plenty of drinks and food, and songs!

Tomorrow I’m going to catch up with the remaining days of the Mini Mani Month, then relax for Christmas, I can’t wait!

Dangerous Affair

Day 2 of the Mini Mani Month, a day late due to spending most of yesterday on a bus, I quickly opened the door of the advent calender, then it was off to Norwich (more about that later.)

So, behind the second door, was Dangerous Affair. I didn’t look too closely at it when I opened it, and in my sleepy state I thought it was more of a red-brown colour, but when I looked properly, it’s a deep raspberry red. I’m not a massive fan of bright reds, so this is a great shade for me.

The pictures show two coats without top coat, and the polish applied really well, and dried quickly.

Back to yesterday, which started with a 3.45am alarm after getting very little sleep, I left the house around 5.30, and our bus left at 6.15. We then wasted almost an hour going around different villages picking people up. Our usual supporters branch didn’t have a bus on, so we were with a different branch, and to me, a branch should have 2-3 pick ups, max. Not 6-7 like they did. It was a nightmare. On the way home was even worse, it was like being on a service bus. Dropping one person off, then dropping someone else off another 20 yards down the road. When you’ve been on a bus for nearly 6 hours and its midnight, the last thing you want is another hour added to your journey going down back rounds and around little villages. We won’t be going with that branch again, that’s for sure! Nice people, but that was just a nightmare. Rant over.

Once we (eventually) arrived in Norwich, we stopped off at The Fat Cat pub a couple of miles from the ground, for about two hours. A really nice pub, friendly locals, and some very bizarre real ales. My dad was drinking something called Bitburger. Sadly just Diet Coke for me!

We made the short journey to Carrow Road, and I had to have a quick look in the club shop, to pick up a couple of things for a friends work colleagues Christmas present. I always like to see what other clubs sell (which is a little weird, I know, but I like to compare with what Sunderland have) and Norwich sell one of the most random things I’ve seen at a football club, a Rubik’s cube!

Once inside the stadium, we got to have a quick chat with a friend from Sweden, who travels over to see as many games as he can, and I also met a girl named Claire, who was from California! Although she was studying in Cambridge, so she didn’t have too far to go!  That’s one of my favourite things about football, especially away games, meeting lots of new people from all over the place, whether it’s in person or through twitter.

It was also my first visit to Carrow Road, making it the 38th football stadium I’ve been to, which means I’ll hit 40 this season, as I haven’t been to Reading or Southampton before.

The first half of the game was very disappointing, Sunderland were very poor, and went 2-0 down, until somehow,Craig Gardner managed to nick a goal back just before half time. The second half was like watching a totally different team, massively improved, and in the end, I have no idea how we didn’t get an equaliser. If only the team that came out in the second half had come out in the first half too. But, we have Chelsea next week, so nothing much to worry about there…

Leopard Print

I’m back to being obsessed with leopard print! The other day I quickly did some leopard print on my ring finger, so I decided I’d have full on leopard print for the weekend. I couldn’t decide what colours to go for, so I went for multi coloured!

I used Models Own Snow White, Lemon Meringue, Lilac Dream, Nails Inc Notting Hill Gate, Kensington Park Road, George Smarty Pants, and the Models Own nail art pen.

Today, I was back at the Stadium of Light, but we got beat 2-4, so I’m not really going to talk about that, here’s a picture from the game!

But, there was a package waiting for me when I got back from the game, my Burt’s Bees Cuticle Cream! I couldn’t wait to try it out. ‘Nourish and moisturise nails and cuticles with this intensive, natural treatment. A touch of lemon oil makes your nails look and smell incredibly clean, healthy and beautiful, naturally.’

It’s lemon scent reminds me of lemon sherbets! It’s got quite a vaseline type consistency to it, rather than being like a hand cream. It’s also in a handy vaseline sized pot, so I can easily pop it in my bag when I go out. It’s not greasy, and absorbs into the skin quickly, and so far, I love it!

A few months ago, Barry M released their Jewel Glitter Collection, Amethyst was the one I wanted to try the most, and when I eventually found it, it didn’t disappoint!

Amethyst is packed with purple, pink, turquoise, gold and black hex glitter, and it is like a party on your nails. If you’re looking for a Christmas nail polish, this is perfect! The glitter is so dense it was fully opaque in three coats, and dried really quickly. The only problem I found was that I had to have a lot on the brush to actually cover an area of the nail. As with most glitter polishes it dries with the bumpy texture, fixed with a layer of topcoat.

From left to right: one coat, two coats, three coats, three coats.

As you can see from the last picture, my cuticles are looking horrible and dry, so I’ve ordered some Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Creme to try and solve this problem, being out in the cold at football at the time probably isn’t helping!

Over the last few days I’ve been at two football matches. On Sunday I went to London for Fulham v Sunderland. This meant a 4.30am wake up call, after only managing to get four hours sleep, leaving the house at 6.30am. The only benefit of being out of the house this early was the beautiful twilight sky (shame about the lamp post and road sign!)

We stopped off at Woodall services, which meant one thing, Starbucks Christmas cups! I’d just fallen asleep before we stopped so I wasn’t thrilled about going out in the cold!

Once we made it to London, we went straight round to the pub we usually visit when we play Fulham, The Crabtree, which is just a short walk from Craven Cottage, and whilst we were there, a guy came round with the FA Cup which you could have your picture taken with. It was a lot heavier than I expected! I’ve now been able to hold the FA Cup, the European Cup, and the Division One trophy 😀

On to the game, we were in row 4, not the best seats, I like being at the front, but at Craven Cottage the first few rows are virtually pitch level, so it’s very hard to see what’s going on, especially if you have tall people in front 🙁

But that didn’t spoil anything too much, Sunderland won 3-1! With goals from Steven Fletcher, Carlos Cuellar, and a beauty from Stephane Sessegnon.

Yesterday I was back at the Stadium of Light for the U21s derby against Newcastle, which ended 2-2; Sunderland were 2-1 down but a late equaliser from Craig Lynch sealed the draw.

After Sunday, I can’t wait to get to get back to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, when Sunderland take on West Bromwich Albion, and I’m feeling positive for once. We haven’t had the best start to the season, and I still can’t believe we scored three goals, and had three different goalscorers!

Nails Inc Lucky Dip

My latest lucky dip from Nails Inc arrived yesterday! As I mentioned in my previous blog, I was worried about getting the same as last time after a lot of other people had this problem, but luckily I didn’t. However, I did notice on the invoice it says ‘May 12,’ so Nails Inc have used the left over lucky dips, and I think they should have stated that they’d be doing that. On to the polishes, the polishes seem to have a very autumnal colour scheme about them, and they aren’t usually colours I’d gravitate towards, but that’s what I like about lucky dips, trying new things and maybe finding something you love.

All of the swatches shown are without top coat.

Brooklyn is one of three polishes inspired by the tv series ‘Mad Men’ and is a pearly nude, which has a purple-ish shimmer (seen in the third picture). Brooklyn needed three coats, but it dried quickly, with a glossy finish.

Fitzmaurice Place is a hot pink with a gold shimmer, it applied really well and I only needed two coats. It dried quickly with a glossy finish.

Madison Avenue is another polish from the Mad Men collection, a very deep forest green. Madison Avenue only needed two coats and dried quickly with a glossy finish. This definitely isn’t a colour I’d usually go for, but it’s a nice alternative to black. I’d like to see what it looked like with Electric Lane over the top.

Portland Place is gorgeous shade of teal, which only needed two coats. It dried quickly with a glossy finish.

Victoria Gate is possibly my favourite from the lucky dip, a lovely plum colour, which only needed two coats.

Westchester is the third and final polish from the Mad Men collection, and is a dark glossy red.

Yesterday, I went to Sunderland to take part in the ‘Biggest Team Photo’ at the Stadium of Light. Anyone who had bought the new Adidas home shirt could take part, then the players came and sat in the stand, to make it a massive team photo. I’m looking forward to seeing the photo in a couple of weeks after being freezing when it was being taken! Here are a couple of pictures I took as the players arrived;

I also got to meet some of the players afterwards (if anyone can recommend any software that could unblur these photos a little I’d appreciate it!)

Simple Nail Art

Sorry for the quick two posts, but I’ve been busy cleaning my house, so I’ve got a few days of polish to catch up on! For the last couple of days I decided to try out something different with some simple nail art. For my first attempt at this I used Barry M’s silver foil effects, and Nail’s Inc’s Baker Street.

I loved this combination but I chipped it earlier, so I picked another two colours today which I’m hoping will last me the weekend! This is Barry M’s 308 Berry Ice Cream, and Nail’s Inc’s Notting Hill Gate.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I’m off to see Sunderland v Wolves tomorrow, definitely hoping for a win! Also hoping I might have a winner in the Grand National! Fingers crossed!

Oh and I have to add, congratulations to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who have confirmed they’re engaged!

Lyndsey 🙂

Today I was at the Sunderland game against Liverpool. Sunderland won 1-0! Before the game I’d have been happy with a draw, although I’m even happier with the win and taking all three points! We definitely got lucky with the goal though, a shot from Fraizer Campbell which hit the post, bounced off the back of Pepe Reina’s head and hitting the post again before Nicklas Bendter knocked it in!

We play Everton next weekend in the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup, 90 minutes (although 180 if there’s a replay) from going to Wembley, not often that chance comes around for a Sunderland supporter!

Onto my nails!

I loved how I’ve had my nails for the last couple of days but I still have new colours that I haven’t tried out yet. I’d also appreciate any tips on removing glitter polish. I thought it might have been easier over another polish, but no! So please share your glitter removing tips with me!

Today I went for nails inc’s Chinatown, which is a hot pink. It also has a purple shimmer to it (one of the reasons I decided to buy it, as it made it different from all my other pinks). This polish went on really nicely, and only needed two coats. It also has a lovely glossy finish to it. But once again I’m going to say now amazing I think nails inc’s 45 second top coat is!

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend!

Lyndsey 🙂
